SECOND ECOSOC-UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE

OMAEC has been invited to attend the 2nd United Nations Conference on South-South Cooperation which took place in Buenos Aires for three days from 20 to 22 March 2019. We were represented by Mrs. Nélida Mariani, president of CONFAEEC (Argentine Confederation of Former Students of Catholic Education) and Evangelina García Richard, vice-president of OMAEC.ecosoc

The main scope was to take advantage of South-South Cooperation, since it represents a great opportunity to achieve Agenda 2030 on the path to achieving Sustainable Development, which seeks, among other objectives, to put an end to hunger and poverty and to counteract climate change. New cooperation modalities were discussed, such as “City – City” (between cities) and “Fragile – Fragile” (between countries in situations of fragility).

This South-South Cooperation complements the international North-South or Triangular cooperation (two countries from the South and one from the North) by accepting multilateralism.

At the end of the conference, the president of the United Nations General Assembly, María Fernanda Espinoza from Ecuador, said: “Solidarity is the tenderness of peoples”.
