INTRODUCTION:

It is an initiative to help Lasallian education of the poor in Panama where two free educational institutions have been created in the popular areas.

DEFINITION OF THE CENTER.

The centers are attached to private education.

It is private centers of free education as established in the agreements between the Ministry of Education and the Association Proa Panama. The centers have been opened thanks to the collaboration of three organizations:

* Panama PROA Association:

Non-profit association dedicated to promoting education and agents of change in education. It has agreements with the Ministry of Education to manage schools. It concluded private agreements with the Association of Former Students of La Salle and the Lasallian Province of Central America-Panama.

* Ministry of Education (National Government): It finances the salaries of all staff and utilities.

* Miguel Febres Cordero Foundation (La Salle). It provides funding for the construction and maintenance of schools and guidance on the pedagogical orientation and values of La Salle.

FAMILIES

It is not a marginal area, but a popular one with young couples.

They have something above the minimum wage income.

The local people are middle-class professionals: technicians, nurses…

They feel that the school has had a positive impact on the area and at home.

One finds many broken families

Social problems such as consumption and sale of drugs, and gangs are present in the area.

COOPERATION alumni:

The Alumni Association of La Salle Panama, entered into a collaboration agreement with PROA PANAMA, it provides resources for the provision of school furniture, the funds for scholarships and college studies, water supplies, computer equipment, musical instruments, etc.
